Fastest 17 cars through time trials with two provisional starting positions available to the top 20 drivers based on the current 2001 Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series point standings, two provisional starting positions available to the top 20 car owners based on the current 2001 Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series point standings, two starting positions from the top two finishers in the non-qualifiers race, and one additional starting position for a former Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series champion who participated as a driver in 2000 and did not qualify in one of the original 17 starting positions.

NOTES OF INTEREST:

  • Kevin Hamlin picked up his second career Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series, NASCAR Touring victory on May 26, 2001 at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval. Hamlin stayed within the top-3 on the track until he made a pass on Garrett Evans for the lead on lap 56.
  • Hamlin set two records at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval in route to his impressive victory. The race was the quickest ever at the .250-mile facility with a time of 30 minutes, 36 seconds. The average speed set a new record at 61.275 mph.
  • The last time the Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series ran more than one race at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval, Wilber Bruce picked up his first career victory on the series. Bruce won on August 22, 1998 as he marched towards the Totem Travel Rookie of the Year Award and a third place finish in the final points standings.
  • Garrett Evans leads the series with seven Bud Pole Awards at Wenatchee Valley. The series only back-to-back champion, Kelly Tanner, is next with five poles. Ron Eaton, who is second in career pole awards on the series, picked up the Bud Pole Award at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval on May 26, 2001. Eaton’s lap of 12.425 seconds at 72.435 mph, was the Lakewood, Wash. natives first pole ever at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval
  • The series career leaders in overall wins have done quite well at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval. Garrett Evans and Ron Eaton have four wins apiece while Gary Lewis and Kelly Tanner have three.
STAT OF THE WEEK:
As the Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series begins the second half of the 2001 season, the top-7 in the points standings are separated by 140 total points. With his second consecutive top-3 finish at Portland International Raceway, Joe Benedetti moved into second place in the points chase, a mere 50 points behind Kevin Hamlin. Totem Travel Rookie of the Year contender, John Bender, sits 56 points behind the leader in third place. Ron Eaton and Pete Harding round out the top-5. ####
