Brandon Davis earned his first career Coors Light Pole Award in the K & N Pro Series West at Infineon Raceway.
"The California native puts Ford on pole "
The No. 10 Applied Computer Solutions Ford Fusion was in the fourth and final group for qualifying, but the yellow flag was thrown after the No. 16 Hasa Pool Products/NAPA Gold Filters Toyota, driven by Moses Smith, when he experienced mechanical failures. Davis had not even begun a hot lap.
“In that situation you’re biggest concern is not getting the car too hot. I think we did a good job of shutting it down early to keep it cool,” said the 25-year-old from Henderson, NV. “Mentally, nothing really changes. The biggest challenge was to trust the car going into turn one on the first lap.”
Once the track had been cleared, it only took one lap for Davis to put his Ford on the pole. Davis zipped around the 1.99- mile track in 77.984 seconds (91.865 mph) earning him the starting position for Saturday’s Thunder Valley Casino Resort 200. NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers Joey Logano and David Gilliland round out the top three.
“I knew we had a good car and it feels good to be able to compete with some of the best stock car drivers around,” said Davis. “The whole team worked hard to get us here. They worked night and day to make sure we were ready.”
This will be Davis’ third stock-car race at Infineon Raceway, with a best finish of third in 2010. Davis cut his teeth in road racing, where he grew through the ranks. Davis won the World Challenge Championship driving a Ford Mustang GT in 2009. Davis is running a limited K & N Pro Series schedule, while continuing his efforts in Late Models and sports cars. Currently, Davis is ranked 7th nationally in the Whelen All-American Series.
