MONROE, Washington — Pierre’s Polaris presented the Rory Price Memorial at Evergreen Speedway on Saturday night June 25. The super fast American Speed Association Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association (ASA NSRA) were just that, with the fastest qualifying speed for the winged sprint cars at 117 mph on the BIG 5/8-mile paved oval. The main was won by Matt Hein. The twin 50 lap mains on the BIG track for race #2 of the new Big West Series featuring the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models were both won by Naima Lang. Andrew Schukar won the Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stock main and Troy Johnson won the Cub Scouts of America Mt. Baker Council Hornet feature.
Hein made a pass on the outside in turn 3 as the 20-car field headed to the white flag lap. Justin Mack finished second in the 30-lap feature. Only one brief yellow slowed the otherwise fast pace set by the speed demons of the NSRA. Andy Alberding finished third ahead of 16-year old Reece Goetz who was in his first ever asphalt sprint car race.
Lang keeps adding to his impressive win list this season. The two wins made it five in a row and seven for the season. In both mains Lang made it look easy as he twice patiently worked his way to the front by mid race. Daniel Moore the WSU student finished second in main #1 with Jeff Knight third. In main #2 Tom Hughes finished second and Kelly Mann third. The speedway officials could not recall anyone as young as 14-year old Garrett Archer racing in the Super Late Model division at Evergreen Speedway. Archer had mechanical problems in main #1 and had to retire for the night.
A last lap pass for the win by Schukar was his first this season. Jon Roberts finished second and point leader Scott LaCross was third.
Hornet winner Johnson kept his lead for the 2011 championship. On the final lap the top three cars were three wide for the lead. Johnson survived for the win. Brent Crise was second just inches ahead of Cyril Greenawalt.
