MADERA, California — Jim Pettit II picked up his fifth top ten of the current SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series season Saturday night at Madera Speedway during the running of the Childrens Hunger Fund ‘125’. Qualifying ninth out of a twenty-car field, he finished sixth at the end of the 125 lap event.

“We qualified a decent ninth, but basically we missed the set-up a little bit. We ran good, but just not fast enough,” according to the Prunedale, CA. driver. “I’m fairly comfortable with it. We’ll take our sixth place finish, a top ten, and head to the next race. We’re only at the halfway point in the season so we’re still within striking distance of the points leader, and that’s the way we have to look at it. The car’s still in one piece, so we’ll do some maintenance on it over the next month and go on down the road from here.”
So far this season, Pettit has not finished outside the top eight, in five races, which keeps him third in the SRL point standings, fifty-three out of first. In his six years of racing in the SRL, the 2008 Series champion has thirty-seven starts, twenty-nine top tens, twenty-six top fives, and ten wins, the most in SRL history.
The next race on the schedule is July 23rd at the Rocky Mountain Raceway in Salt Lake City, UT.
