MERIDIAN, Idaho — Folks look forward to three days of leisure whenever a three-day holiday weekend is on the horizon. Fans of ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway, however, can get three days of racing during this Fourth of July weekend.
The three successive days of speed begin Saturday night with Boys and Girls Club Night and a tribute to the Western Idaho Racing Association Hall of Fame and ends on Monday night with the Stinker Stores Firecracker 50 for the Mtn. Dew Winged Sprintcars and Fireworks Spectacular presented by the City of Meridian.
In between on Sunday is a Domino’s Pizza Legends matinee that also serves as extra preparation for Monday’s qualifier for the 2011 INEX Asphalt Nationals, which is set for Oct. 27-29 at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The Legends are on the track all three days.
On Saturday, the Legends drivers will share the paved quarter-mile oval with the NAPA Late Model Sportsman drivers as well as the Edmark Mini Stocks and Thunder Dogs. The busy night also includes Spectacular Drags where fans bring their rides to run and the Westby’s Bike Races for Kids.
On Sunday, the Legends have the track to themselves. The regular admission gate won’t be open, with spectators gaining access to the track through the pit gate. Seating will be available in the north grandstand, and admission is $12 for everyone and includes a pit pass. The pits open at 9 a.m. with practice at 10 a.m., qualifying at noon and racing a half-hour later.
Monday’s holiday finale includes the Legends’ national qualifier and another round of the ESI Express ASA Modifieds series in which drivers are also chasing ranking in the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Membership National Championship standings.
Nampa, Idaho’s Shelby Stroebel currently sits second in the national standings, trailing Barry Beggarly, who calls Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C., home. Stroebel is a few hundredths of a point behind Beggarly and leads the West Region pack of drivers.
The Mtn. Dew Winged Sprintcars, College of Western Idaho Professional Truck Driving Street Stocks and Tates Rents Hornets also will run feature races Monday, including the Stinker Stores Firecracker 50 for the winged sprints.
Gates open at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Monday with racing at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday night’s ticket prices are $10 for general admission, $7.50 for senior citizens and military personnel with ID, $6 for children ages 7-11. A family pass for admission for two adults and up to four children is available for $30.
Monday’s admission costs $12 for adults, $9.50 for senior citizens and military personnel, $8 for children 7-11. The family pass costs $36.
As always, children 6 and younger get in free on Saturday and Monday.
