MONROE, Washington — Greg Pursley backed up his performance in practice to win the Coors Light Pole on Saturday during qualifying for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Evergreen 200 at Evergreen Speedway.
Pursley, who has scored five wins in the first seven races, set a track record in his No. 26 Gene Price Motorsports/Star Nursery Ford with a fast time of 22.831 seconds (101.862 mph). It marked his second consecutive pole award and his fourth of 2011.
His 16-year-old teammate, Dylan Kwasniewski, followed closely in second - also breaking the previous track record. He will start alongside on the front row in Sunday’s race.
Also eclipsing the track record in third was Jeff Barkshire from nearby Auburn, Wash. Barkshire scored his lone series win at Evergreen Speedway during the last series visit to the facility in 2008.
Jason Fraser, another local favorite who made his lone start in the series at Evergreen in 2007, qualified fourth with Michael Self completing the top five.
Luis Martinez Jr">Luis Martinez Jr. and Eric Holmes followed in sixth and seventh with Brett Thompson eighth. Moses Smith and Daryl Harr rounded out the top 10 qualifiers.
