SAN BERNARDINO, California — Mark Shackleford turned consistency into victory Saturday night at Orange Show Speedway.

Shackleford, a two-time Super Late Model champion from Riverside, Calif., had taken a share of the California Speed Jams 2011 poiint standings with consistent top three finishes in the first five races.

Saturday, he qualified third, started on the pole and kept his Bud’s Tire and Wheel Chevrolet Monte Carlo in front for all 50 laps around the ASA-sanctioned quarter-mile oval. Matt Hicks, who had won two of the five races, settled into second at the start, but never was able to pose a threat to Shackleford this time.

John Manke, Travis Stockman and Anthony Mainella followed in order.

Brandon Loverock, who had had his four-race Late Model winning streak snapped the last time out, started what he hopes will be another one by taking the lead from Matt Goodwin on lap 9 and staying in front to the finish of the 40-lap contest.

Goodwin got second and Jeremy Perez third. It was the best finish of the season for Perez, of Chino, Calif., who also won the 4-lap Trophy Dash.

The 35-lap Pony Stock main event turned into a neighborly tussle as Beaumont, Calif., residents Erik Spring and Jack Hughes finished one-two, respectively. Spring got the lead from Kevin Meador on lap 25, after Meador got balked by a slower car, and took the win by 3 seconds.

Meador slowed dramatically and pulled off one lap after losing the lead and finished 11 but over the early laps he had engaged in an entertaining duel with class newcomer Johnny Soares, a former Pro 4 regular. Soares finshed fifth.

Kyle Meyer, a past Street Stock champion, got his initial Super Stock win with a wire-to-wire domination of that 35-lap feature. Meyer, of Highland, Calif., held off points leader Steve Smith and Cliff Conklin and got his Chevrolet Nova to the finish 4.39 seconds to the good.

Danny Gutierrez, of Redlands, Calif., got his second win in five starts in th Factory Four class. Gutierrez took the lead on the second of 35 laps and was able to stay clear of Dan French, who had won the past two events, and Dwayne Blay.

Hicks opened his evening by winning a Legends Cars main event shortened to 15 laps after two of the five starters were eliminated in an early accident and Mikael Lovas of Menifee captured an entertaining 25-lap Bandoleros main event that featured three yellow flags within the first two laps.

The final event of the night, an impromptu 12-lap Figure 8 race, was won by Pony Stock driver Darrell Kelsoe over Factory Four entrants French and Blay and Pony drivers Joe Van Sant and Josh Hodges.
