KALISPELL, Mont — (July 24, 2011)-Dave Daughtry has tried in vain for several seasons to break through for a career-first main event victory in the CHS Legends Series that calls Montana Raceway Park home. On many occasions mechanical gremlins or racing luck have stood in his way towards victory circle-until Saturday night.
Showing patient driving skill and determination, Daughtry held off series points leader Tyler Corpron to score that elusive victory in front of a capacity crowd on Fan Appreciation Night. Taking an early lead over Devin Clayton, the Martin City native held off several of Corpron’s challenges late for the checkered flag.
In Flathead Beacon Bomber action, Ray Young scored his second main event victory of the season over Bill McCallum who had the point through much of the night’s finale. Often going side-by-side and nose to tail, Young, Chris Warburton and Kyle Koehler stayed with McCallum with Young making his move to the lead with a mere two laps to go in the race. Warburton followed Young around McCallum to nab the runner-up position with McCallum, Koehler and Jon Davisson rounding out the top-5.
Heinz Henke makes it a point to run a one-race schedule in the Flathead Beacon Hornet division each season and Saturday night was the Kalispell Toyota salesman’s chance at stardom. Driving for Zach Havens in the No. 14, Henke scored a hard-fought main event victory over newcomer Josh Brinton and Ryan Krause.
Dennis Galloway and Marianne Hanson rounded out the top-5.
Brock Denney continued his mastery of the Wanna Race Bandolero division with a main event victory over Todd Holleman and Bryce Denney.
Bailey Erickson and Brandon McCully closed out the top-5 running order.
For the first time in nearly seven years the Northwest Modified Series returns to the high banks of Montana Raceway Park. Also racing will be the Pabst Blue Ribbon Hobby Stocks and the Flathead Beacon Hornets.
