MONROE, Washington — This Saturday August 6 at Evergreen Speedway will be the first annual ‘Spirit 105.3 Radio Faith & Family Night’. The night will feature the NASCAR Super Figure Eights in twin 50-lap mains. In addition the Stinger 8’s, Extreme V-8’s and Cub Scouts Mt. Baker Council Hornets in a 50-lap road course main. There will be two ‘Faster Pastor’ races for area church pastors. The Christian rock band RI-3 (Redeemed in Three) will perform during pre-race activities. Front gates for the fans open at 4pm with pre-race activities starting at 5pm and racing at 6pm.
The battle for supremacy in the chase for the Super Figure Eight 2011 championship is as tight as any in recent history. The top eight drivers are within 68-points of the lead. Current leader and defending champion Jake Repin has two drivers within five points. They are Mike Middleton and Nick Gunderson. Next in line is Brian Gunderson (Nick’s father) 11-points back followed by Ryan Gunderson (Nick’s brother) 16-points in arrears, Seth Funden 43-points out, Quenton Borreson 45-points and Shane Sawin 68-points.
With twin 50’s this Saturday it is a night that these top eight will need to keep pace or with any luck put some distance from their competitors.
The Hornet division point’s battle is a bit tamer with Troy Johnson enjoying a 68-point edge over Jaime Corbett and 75-points over Cyril Greenawalt. With the large number of cars that start a Hornet main on the road course the lead can be gobbled up in a hurry.
Stinger 8 point leader Lance O’Grain has a sizeable lead with a 227-point cushion on Todd Stilwell and 240-point margin on Sean Peters.
The action in the Faster Pastor races (2 mains due to so many participating) should be a crowd pleaser and the whole night centered on families and their faith.
Front gates open at 4pm with pre-race concert and fan fest beginning at 5pm and racing roars off at 6pm. For tickets call 360-805-6100 or go to the speedway’s web page at www.evergreenspeedway.com.
