MERIDIAN, Idaho — The Weaver name has appeared on racecars since the 1960s at ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway.
Marv Weaver won his first championship, in the Limited Stocks, back in 1964.
While his daughter, Melissa, has won track titles under two different married names, she’s looking to put the Weaver name back at the top of the championship heap.
Melissa Weaver can take another step toward that goal with a strong showing in Saturday’s College of Western Idaho Professional Truck Driving 100 at the paved quarter-mile oval.
The 100-lap race for the CWI PTD Street Stocks highlights a Racing For Smiles of the Northwest (RFSNW) night at track, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2011. Other classes running Saturday include the ESI Express ASA Modifieds and the Jr. Stingers for racers ages 12-14. The Jack Links Snack Attack also will take place.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 6:30 p.m.
Ticket prices are $10 for general admission, $7.50 for senior citizens and military personnel with ID, $6 for children ages 7-11. A family pass for admission for two adults and up to four children is available for $30.
As always, children 6 and younger get in free on Saturday and Monday.
Fans can buy tickets online at www.meridianspeedway.com, print them off at home and avoid the long lines on race night.

With her dad picking up a checkered flag a week ago — his first Street Stocks win for 2011 — Melissa Weaver holds down the series lead by 130 points over fellow Nampan Chad Bess.
Marv (516 points) is in fourth place with third-place Tyler Nelson of Kuna, Idaho, sitting third with 550 points.
RFSNW periodically brings children battling medical problems to the Meridian track to serve as honorees for the night. Each lucky child gets a tour of the pits before the race, which gives them an opportunity meet drivers and get autographs. Once the racing begins, the honoree gets to present trophies to the race winners throughout the night.
ESI Express ASA Modifieds. series leader Shelby Stroebel of Nampa slipped a rung in the latest Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship standings. Although he still has the best championship index of western region drivers, Stroebel, who has 3.523 points in the championship formula, is fourth overall nationally behind new leader Chrissy Wallace from Lebanon I-44 Raceway in Missouri (3.9518), former leader Barry Beggarly of Ace Speedway in North Carolina (3.9309) and Jason York, also of Ace (3.8313).
