KALISPELL, Mont — (August 6, 2011)-Ray Young scored his second consecutive Flathead Beacon Bomber main event victory while Giles Thornton capped a strong night with a career-first checkered flag in the Lucas Oil Super Stock Series.
Tyler Corpron (CHS Legend Series), Tim Davis (MRP Compacts) and Brock Denney (Wanna Race Bandoleros) were also victorious on Travelodge Night at the Races held at Montana Raceway Park.
Young worked his way through traffic then held off a hard charging Kyle Koehler in the premier race for the division each year. Chris Warburton gave chase to the leaders but was unable to close the gap in the closing laps and settled for third place.
Bill McCallum and Jon Davisson rounded out the top-5.
Koehler maintains his slim lead in the chase for the 2011 championship based on his solid night of racing.
Thornton nabbed his first Lucas Oil Super Stock Series fast time award and set the tone for the night as one of the cars to beat. Points leader Brandon Sickler had the second quickest lap in qualifying and the duo showcased their talents in the 40-lap main event shootout.
Sickler moved through traffic early and set a strong pace as Thornton used patience to keep the leader in his sights. Gaining ground at the midway point of the race, Thornton moved by Sickler who had slowed down the backstretch with a mechanical issue.
With the lead in hand, Thornton set a torrid pace over a hard-charging Adam Kinkel to claim the victory by three-seconds over his closest competitor.
Tim Hatlen, Lonnie Barnett and Scott Lee rounded out the top-5 finishing order.
Tyler Corpron added to his points lead in the chase for the 2011 CHS Legends Series championship as he held off Dave Daughtry’s march for a second straight main event victory by 1.3-sec. with Devin Clayton bringing home a third place finish.
Dylan Walker and Dave Cannon closed out the top-5 in the 30-lap main event.
Tim Davis capped a solid night of racing in the MRP Compact division with his third main event victory of the season. Fran Rehn chased Davis in the closing laps but came up just short for a second place finish while fellow lady racer Nancy Davis rounded out the top-3
Brock Denney moved from the back to the front of the Wanna Race Bandolero main event in quick fashion then held off a hard-charging Todd Holleman for the victory with Brandon McCully having his best career finish of third place.
Bryce Denney and Bailey Erickson closed out the top-5 running order.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series returns to Montana Raceway Park on Aug. 13 with two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip entered in the 150-lap main event.
