Chowchilla California – Fans found some serious fun at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds this past Saturday night, there was an outdoor market, an event at the new pavilion building, motorcycle racing and car racing all going on at the same time. The sponsor for the August 13th races was the Chowchilla Fairgrounds “Event Center” and the grounds were full of events on this beautiful Central California night.
Another different driver won in the super competitive Sport Mod class, this time it was the smooth driving Andrew Krumm that added his name to the growing list of Sport Mod main event winners at the Chowchilla Speedway.
Point leader Gary Hildebrand jumped out to the lead in the 30 lap main event, but he was caught by Ray Tevis and some great action followed. Tevis did what few have done this season by passing Hildebrand for the lead, but Hildebrand charged back past Tevis several laps later.
While this was going on Andrew Krumm charged through the pack on his way to the front and when he got there on lap 18 of the 30 lap race he fought with Hildebrand for several laps over the top spot. Krumm tried to get under the leader but finally made a dashing move on the top side of the hooked up race track to take the lead and win. This was his first win at the Chowchilla Speedway.
Mike Drake had a solid race finishing third, the ever improving Marisa Odgers ran a strong third, and the hard driving Robert Fandrey wrestled an ill handling car to fifth.
The Sport Mods have been moved to the top of the card for the 3rd annual Pacific Dirt Nationals in mid-October. Rules, race procedures and purses will be announced over the coming weeks for this mega event in the Sport Mod ranks.
