
VICTORIA, B — C….. Western Speedway will host its biggest event of the year, this Friday and Saturday nights as the high flying ASA/NSRA Winged Sprint Cars will compete in one of Canada’s oldest motorsports event’s, the 50 lap P&R Western Star/Richlock Rentals Daffodil Cup that will be run on Saturday Night. The inaugural event was sponsored by the Daffodil King, Geoff Vantreight, an was held in 1961, it won by Edmonton’s Eldon Rasmussen. The 40 lap Kershaw Cup will be run on Friday Night for the winged cars, both nights are point races ASA/NSRA. The WILROC Non Winged Sprint Cars will also be in action both nights.
The event will have two, three time winners, that includes the 2010 winner Duncan’s Scotty Aumen and Victoria’s own Jeff Montgomery, with a win both drivers will tie Roy Smith who won The Daffodil Cup four times. Other local contenders include Matt Mansell, Guy Barrett, Randy Vincent and Chris Schmelzle, Shawnigan Lake drivers Jeff Bird and Darren Yates, as well as 2011 Strawberry Cup winner Sidney’s Rob Scott.
NSRA drivers looking to hit victory square include current point’s leader and former NSRA Champion Matt Hein from Roseburg, Oregon, he leads fastest female on the west coast Sierra Jackson from Meridian, Idaho by 28 points 412 to 384. Oregon’s Andy Alberding the 2010 NSRA Champion holds down third, 2 points behind Jackson at 382, Vern Scevers sits in fourth place with 280 points and William Lake’s Ron Larson rounds out the top five with 278 points.
The WILROC Non Wing Cars will be lead by current point’s leader Jessie Dardengo, Dardengo leads Deter Lejeune 22 points 760 to 738, Wayde Heckford holds down third position with 611 points. Ron French sits in fourth with 596, while Steven Dardengo rounds out the top five with 560 points.
Both nights will complete shows that will include qualifying, trophy dashes, heat races and main events.
