PORTLAND, OREGON (July 16, 2001) Things weren't looking good for NHRA Federal Mogul Drag Series Driver Dan McGlone this past weekend at Woodburn Dragstrip. Dan and his Total Car Care/NAPA Auto Parts Funny Car had suffered minor engine problems leading to a backfire which left him in last place after Fridayıs qualifying round. ³We knew the car would run good, but little things were breaking and we just couldnıt get from point A to point B under power. ² Said Portland Driver Dan McGlone.
Knowing they had a top contender Dan and his crew fixed the engine problems that had troubled them in qualifying and in Round One went up against the fastest car of the weekend. Dan squared off against Pat Austin, the winningest driver in the history of the series. McGlone was strong off the start line at won round one with a time of 5.84 seconds, running an impressive 240 mph beating Austin.
³We ran a 5.79 in a previous race so we knew we had a car that would make the finals.² Said McGlone. And thatıs exactly what Dan did. In Round Two he dominated the strip with another 5.84 run.
Dan was put on display in the final round of the three day event held at Woodburn Dragstrip July 13 through 15th. In the final round he ran alone as his final competitor suffered engines problems and could not race. McGlone ran a victorious 5.97 seconds in front of a packed crowd.
The O99 Camaro bodied funny car is on a wining streak. It has only made two appearances this season both resulting in trips to the finals. The last race was Woodburn Fire and Thunder, June 19 & 20. Next weekend Dan and his crew head to Seattle International Raceway in hopes of making the finals. As part of the NHRA NW Nationals presented by NAPA Auto Parts.
³Weıd like to make a good showing at SIR and qualify in the top two or three
spots. ³ said McGlone. The NAPA sponsored event will draw over 600 NAPA
owners, employees, and customers to this three day event, which starts July
27th. Dan McGlone receives support from Total Car Care a full service
