ANTIOCH, California — If you like sprint cars, there’s lots of them coming at you from Antioch Speedway in just over a week. You’ll have to be patient, though, as the speedway is on its traditional holiday break this weekend.
"There has been non-stop underway in preparation for the big event. "
There is no racing Saturday night, as the track takes its third and final summer holiday break.
“Family time is important,” promoter John Soares said. “When we make the schedule, we keep the three holiday weekends free for people to who have families to enjoy them.”
The following Saturday’s (Sept.10) event is cancelled in preparation for the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars arrival at the track for Monday, Sept. 12. The rare Monday night racing event was added to the Antioch Schedule just weeks ago.
There has been non-stop underway in preparation for the big event. The grandstands have been painted, the pits spruced up, and accommodations for parking have been arranged.
The World of Outlaws has never been to Antioch Speedway before. The Monday night event will begin a feast for sprint car lovers. Saturday night, Sept. 17, the speedway is back in action with both All Star Wingless Sprint Cars and 360 Winged Sprints. In addition there will be Limited Late Models, Super Hobby Stocks, “Mini Trux”, Dwarf Cars and “Four Bangers”.
The DIRTcar West Modified Stock Cars return to Antioch Speedway on September 24. The following weekend, the Budweiser Fall Classic will be a two division, two track event for DIRTcar West Modifieds and Western All Stars Late Models. The show will begin at Antioch Speedway on Saturday, Oct. 1 and move to Merced Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 2.
