KALISPELL, Montana — Eric Hector picked up the Coca-Cola-75 lap main event for the ICAR Late Model Series inaugural visit to Montana Raceway Park. The win is Hector’s third checkered flag of the season as the Ephrata, Wash. native keeps pace with championship points leader, Blake Williams, who ran second.
"Young’s main event victory was his third straight "
Spokane’s Jason O’Neil finished third with Colton Garber and Garrett Sawyer rounding out the top-5.
Williams got the night started by capturing the series first-ever fast time award at Raceway Park with a speed of just over 64-mph. In the trophy dash, Kalispell’s Micah Sampson, who timed in fourth-quick on the night, had the hot hand as he drove to the victory with O’Neil hot on his heels.
Using a 12-car invert, Montana Raceway Pak Lucas Oil Super Stock regular, Adam Kinkel, started on the pole and held the point in the race’s early going. Hector used the low side often as he moved through traffic and took the lead near the midway point.
From there Hector held off a hard-charging Williams over a series of restarts en route to the victory.
Also picking up main event victories during Coca-Cola Night at the Races were Jason Young (Pabst Blue Ribbon Hobby Stocks), Brock Denney (Wanna Race Bandoleros) and Zach Havens (Flathead Beacon Hornets).
Young’s main event victory was his third straight and as he continues to chase the division’s rookie of the year title.
Dustin Martel maintained his position atop the championship standings with a runner-up finish.
Mike Burke, Ray Young and Josh Davis rounded out the top-5 running order.
Denney continues to have the strong car in the Bandolero division and with the win locks up the 2011 championship. Bryce Denney and Todd Holleman closed out the top-3 running order.
Zach Havens jumped back behind the wheel of the No. 14 Hornet and raced to his second main event victory of the season. Defending series champion, Kyle Basler, ran second with Ryan Krause, Tyler Volkman and Keith Sheppard closing out the top-5.
Montana Raceway Park returns to action Saturday, September 10 with the season championship event for the Kalispell Toyota Late Model Series. Also racing will be the MRP Compacts in their season championship and the Flathead Beacon Bombers running a 50-lap shootout that pays over $325 to the winner.
