DOSS, MOOK, PITTMAN REPEAT WINNERS AT UKIAH SPEEDWAY
Terry Pittman carries the military flags around the Ukiah Speedway in honor of his brother, Jesse Pittman, a U.S. Navy SEALS member who was killed in Afghanistan on August 6

UKIAH, California — On day one of the Labor Day double header at Ukiah Speedway there were three repeat winners and two first-time winners in the North State Racing Association classes. Teenager Jeremy Doss of Upper Lake set fast time and captured his seventh main event in the Airport Auto Brokers Legends Cars division. Bob Mook of Santa Rosa chalked up his fourth Bud Bomber win, and Terry Pittman of Ukiah claimed his sixth victory in the Speedy Signs Street Stock class. First time winners included Jake Tillman of Cobb in the Pro-4 Modified series and 13 year old Trevor Abella on the 4-Banger road course.

"Several patriotic songs were played while all the drivers paraded around the track in his honor. "

The Modified Tri Track Challenge had 20 lap qualifying heat races Saturday night which set the stage for Sunday's race. Those races were claimed by Darrin Knight of Kelseyville and Jason Philpot of Sacramento. Being the winner of the fast heat, Philpot was asked to draw a number for the inversion of Sunday's 50 lap feature. Philpot drew the number eight putting him on the outside of row four for the start of Sunday's feature.

The evening began with a special tribute to Terry Pittman's brother Jesse Pittman, a Navy SEAL member who was killed in Afghanistan on August 6. Several patriotic songs were played while all the drivers paraded around the track in his honor. And later race fans were treated to a surprise visit from the Oscar Mayer “Weiner-mobile” which was used as a pace car for the Legends Cars heat races.

Airport Auto Brokers Legends Cars

Ron Duke Jr. made his debut in a Legends Car Saturday night, and at the drop of the green flag he shot out into the lead over Zach Frazer and Codi Barba. Points leader Bill Kistenmacher bailed out early, retiring to the pits after running only one lap. Barba took to the high side passing both Frazer and Duke on lap four to take over the lead. Cameron Austin followed Barba's line and settled into second on lap five. Next to try the outside charge were the father and son team of Mike and Jeremy Doss. Jeremy swapped places with mike on lap eight and set his sights on the leaders.

Three rounds later J. Doss drove around Austin for second and passed Barba for the number one spot on 13. The next 10 laps saw M. Doss and Austin battling for third, swapping places with each pass. Doss finally won the battle. J. Doss pulled away from Barba with Barba five car-lengths back in second. On the white flag lap Austin made a final charge on M. Doss and at the checkers it was J. Doss, Barba, Austin, M. Doss and Logan Zampa. Heat races went to Zach Frazer and J. Doss.

Bud Bombers

The action-packed bomber 30 lapper began with defending champ George Abella forging ahead of Lori Bowers, and as the outside groove moved, Kevin Brackett and Ray Strain settled into second and third. Brandon Verde and AJ Randall also made ground with Ron Duke Sr. and Bob Mook next in line.

As Abella put distance on the pack, the rest of the field stayed tightly bunched until lap 16 when Brackett pushed high into Strain. Strain returned the favor by spinning Brackett on the back stretch. The contact collected Jimmy Sorrels and Mike Glass. With those four starting in the rear it put Verde next to Abella for the restart. The pair ran side-by-side, and then on lap 18 Abella pushed high. Duke drove under him, but then Duke's car pushed into Abella's car which shoved Abella's car into Verde. This action sent Verde's car off the track on the back stretch. Officials stopped the race and put Duke to the back for aggressive driving leaving Rick Tommila in the lead and Jimmy Sorrels in second.

Sorrels stole the lead on the restart with Tommila in second and Mook third. Two more yellow flags saw Mook move to the front where he stayed all the way to the checkered flag. Sorrels finished second in front of AJ Randall, Tommila and Amy Burger. Heat wins went to Sorrels and Mook. Duke set fast time.

Speedy Signs Street Stocks

Jeramy Lippincott led the first lap of the street stock feature with Louis Hoaglin out in front on lap two. But Pittman was on a mission and passed both the leaders on the third go-round. Both RJ Randall and Corey James moved forward with James running second by lap eight. Danny Helm fell out on lap 14.

The race went non-stop with Pittman taking the win over James, Randall, Lippincott and Hoaglin. James set fast time and also won the fast heat race.

Pro-4 Modifieds

A good field of Pro-4 Modifieds saw second row starter Neo Nuno out in front on the first lap with Nick King tight on his heels. The first yellow fell on lap four when Nick Hansen spun on the front stretch. When racing resumed Nuno took off again while Tillman, who set fast time, was working his way to the front. Both Marty Lewis and Tillman shot by King on five, and Tillman drove by Lewis the following round. Nuno was next on Tillman's list, and the winning pass came on lap seven.

The only other incident happened on lap 20 when Greg Van Cleave was attempting an inside pass on Joe Aiken. Aiken tried to reclaim his position, came down too soon and the two made contact sending both spinning. When racing resumed Tillman stayed in control for his first season victory at Ukiah. Lewis finished second, Aiken rebounded to finish third ahead of Van Cleave and King.

4-Bangers

With four cars out with blown engines the 4-Banger road course racers were reduced to only three cars. “Hot Shoe” Jesse Thurman passed Trevor Abella for the lead on the third round, but when Thurman's car developed a push due to a loose wheel, Abella reclaimed the lead on lap eight. Thurman pulled it together enough to take it back on lap 12, and just when it looked like it would be another win for Thurman, the car failed him again and Abella shot by on the white flag lap for his first win. Thurman settled for second with this goind to AJ Randall.
