Twin Falls, ID -- The American Indy cars made their second appearance at Magic Valley Speedway Saturday night with the running of the PEPSI 100. McDonald's fast qualifier, Bill Tempero at 13.25 seconds, took the early lead followed closely by Jimmy Santos. The two drivers were lapping cars by the 13th lap when Santos slipped by Tempero to grab the lead with Ken Petrie running a close third. Tempero hounded Santos to the checkered flag but could not retake the lead. The three divers made up the top three with Harold Quantie and John McDonald rounding out the top five.
The NASCAR Winston Racing Series Feature Division Mountain Dew Modifieds waged their usual close battle throughout the forty lap main event. Point leader Bruce Quale challenged John Newhouse throughout the event, but Newhouse was up to the challenge and won his first main event of the 1999 season. Rick Corbridge, Brett Thompson and Harold Wartluft made up the rest of the top five. Wartluft won the heat trailed by Doug Dugger and Newhouse. Quale was quickest in McDonalds time trials.
The NASCAR ShorTrack Series Budweiser Street Stocks ran an exciting 35 lap main event with lots of close racing action. Norm Hatke prevailed with Dale Miles, Jeff Meads, Tom Powell and Don VanSchoiack in his wake. Clay Bagley won the A heat over Hatke and Meads. The top three in the B heat were Jeramee Coates, John Kreps and Troy Carothers. Hatke leads the season standings by 12 points.
The NAPA Auto Parts Pony Stocks completed a full evening of racing entertainment. The heat race went to Alan Larson followed by Fred Marlof and Eugene Wuensch. The 25-lap main was close with David Caldwell Jr. taking the checkered flag. The rest of the top five was Billi Miles, Marlof, Ron Revels and Wuensch.
