Will Lance Biggers hold on? Will Bo Lemler sneak in and steal the title? Will Jimmy Dickerson be able to repeat? These questions and more will be answered this Saturday night when the Grand American modifieds conclude their 1999 point season at Cajon Speedway. Race time is 7:00 P.M.
Saturday will also include the final event of the year for the street stocks, pony stocks, and bomber stocks. The action will conclude with the final destruction derby of the season. Following this weekend's action only the fall open competition event for late model sportsman remains. That 100-lapper, the longest race of the year for late model sportsman drivers who concluded their point season a week ago.
The answer to only one of the above questions will be yes. Lance Biggers, Bo Lemler, and Jimmy Dickerson all have a shot at winning the modified championship. That division featured the closest point battle all season. Two of the other three divisions running this weekend have already had their champion crowned. Two weeks ago Danny Gay sewed up the street stock championship and Randy Wallace did likewise in the bombers. In the pony stocks, Rob Overman and Ed Hale will decide the championship. Overman is trying to become the eleventh different driver in as many years to claim the first place trophy. Hale won the title last year. The two are separated by just 27 markers with a maximum 62 possible Saturday night.
In the modifieds, Biggers is clearly in the drivers seat. He leads Lemler by 16 markers and Dickerson by 17. But a possible 43 points can be earned in the 30-lap Grand Prix so anything is still possible. Biggers however can wrap things up by finishing seventh or better in the points finale. Biggers has been the class of the modified class this year. In 12 starts he has six victories, three seconds, and a single third place finish. Lemler meanwhile has yet to win, but has a pair of seconds and six third place finishes. Dickerson has two visits to victory lane to go with his four second place finishes.
The situation in the pony stocks is more complicated. In this division passing points are awarded. Should Hale get the maximum number of points by having fast time and win the main event, Overman could have to finish as high as second or as low as ninth depending on where he qualifiers.
