Lance Biggers needed only to finish eighth in the Grand American modified main event at Cajon Speedway to claim his first divisional title. So the second generation racer drove a conservative race for 15 rounds and then made his move and ended up winning both the 30-lap feature and the championship trophy on the 3/8 mile paved oval.

Biggers, who won for the seventh time this season, was seven car lengths in front of Bo Lemler, who also ended up second in points, when the checkered flag was displayed. Rounding out the top five were Scott Brown, Steve Luecht, and Dave Van Riper. Biggers is the son of former Cajon super stock driver Tim Biggers, whose best showing was a second place in the 1975 standings. Fittingly the son's championship came on his dad's 59th birthday and his parent's 37th wedding anniversary.

Richard Hinze led all 30-laps of the street stock season finale and Bill Holland did likewise in the 25-lap affair for bomber stocks. Billy Hoagland was victorious in the 25-lap pony stock Grand Prix. Rob Overman came home sixth in the event. He becomes the 11th different driver in as many seasons to win that division's championship. Overman had to borrow a ride from Ben Carver after he broke a motor in his own Mustang in qualifying and then a replacement motor had an oil leak. Biggers started fifth in the modified feature and slowly worked his way forward. Luecht led the opening five rounds before Lemler took over. Jimmy Dickerson, the third driver who had championship hopes, moved into the runnerup spot on lap 6 and Biggers gained third following a lap seven restart.

For the next several circuits Biggers was content to tail his title rivals. But it was clear he had the fastest car. He overhauled Dickerson on lap 13 and then slipped under Lemler three circuits later. Once in front he was never headed. Dickerson lost his third place finish when he was tapped from behind by Randy Nelson and spun on the 23rd round. Nelson was black flagged and not allowed to continue. That decision cost him the final spot in the top ten in the point standings. The street stock contest ran non-stop and as a result Hinze was able to set a track record for the 30-lap distance. Danny Gay came from 15th starting position and finished second. Gay ran side-by-side with Doug Carpenter four about six rounds before he was finally able to gain possession of the runnerup spot with just a few circuits remaining. Carpenter ended up third. Ivan Harrison moved past Eric Evans on the 26th lap to take fourth.
