MARTY ZEHR WINS TWO AGAIN

After a very long four week break the drivers where ready run. The battle for the overall points lead would be continued with only 22 points separating Jeff Hillock #41 and Joe Hood #37 for the top spot. With only 162 points separating the rest of the top ten, the RMR track championship on the line and Troy Workman #66 looking to wrap up the Rookie title, the night was shaping up to be a good one.

Twenty four cars showed up for the race with Russell Butler #25 hitting the trailer after the first hot lap session after loosing an oil pump belt. Qualifying saw the quickest times of the season yet, with Jeff Hillock setting the pace with a 15.16 on the 3/8 mile oval, followed by Todd Ellison #90 with a 15.29.

The first heat race saw #22 Jerry Cox get loose on the first lap down the back stretch slid where he slid down across the infield and up into turn three in front of #37 Joe Hood and #27 Rick Webster. Hood was able to check up in time, but Webster could not and collected Cox.

On the restart Frank Andreason #98 took the lead only to lose it to Hillock on the 3rd lap. Once out front Hillock pulled away from the field and to take the checkered flag.

The second heat race found #36 Greg Hillock out front for the first lap. Troy Workman passed Hillock coming out of turn 2 to take the lead where he stayed to take the win and and enabled him to wrap up the Rookie of the Year title.

The fifty lap main event had the top ten qualifiers inverted on the start. Andreason took the lead on the start but lost it on the ninth third lap to Clint Kidd #88. Lap six had #22 Jerry Cox cut a tire on the back straight putting him into the wall. He was able to keep it straight and took it off the track. Jim Eaton #85 spun into turn three while checking up which brought out the yellow.

Lap 15 saw the second caution of the night when Greg Hillock #36 cut a right front tire and went into the wall in turn one. Hillock was able to drive his car off the track. Kidd held his lead until lap twenty-seven when #63 Marty Zehr moved out front. Todd Ellison #90 cut a right front tire and found the wall coming out of turn one on lap 35. Ellison continued on around and exited to the pits, in the mean time #55 spun coming out of turn one bringing out the 3rd and final caution of the race.

Points leader Jeff Hillock #41 left the track on lap 44 when the right side of the car body started to come off. Zehr stayed out in front to to the checkered flag giving him his second consecutive win and the RMR track championship.
