SPARTA, Ky., Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001 - Event happenings leading up to and during the Belterra Casino Indy 300 on Aug. 10-12 at Kentucky Superspeedway:

SCHEDULE: The Belterra Casino Indy 300 starts at 1:30 p.m. (EDT) Aug. 12. MBNA Pole Qualifying starts at noon Aug. 11. Practice sessions start at 10 a.m. (two groups) and 2 p.m. (two groups) Aug. 10 and 9 a.m. (two groups) and 4 p.m. (all cars) Aug. 11.

ON THE AIR: The Belterra Casino Indy 300 will be televised live on ABC at 1:30 p.m. (EDT) Aug. 12. "Indy Racing 2Day" will be televised live at 11 a.m. Aug. 12 on ESPN2. MBNA Pole Qualifying will be broadcast on ESPN2 at midnight (EDT) Aug. 11. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network will broadcast a 30-minute pre-race show at 1 p.m. (EDT) Aug. 12, followed by the live race broadcast at 1:30 p.m. There will be a qualifying wrap-up show at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 11. The area IMS Radio Network affiliate is WCKY-AM 1360, Cincinnati The IMS Radio Network race broadcast also will be available live on the Internet at as part of a partnership between Indy Racing Online and Yahoo!/, the world's leading Web broadcast site.

ON THE WEB: Live enhanced timing and scoring reports from the Belterra Casino Indy 300 practice, MBNA Pole Qualifying and the race will be available on the Internet at . Enhanced live timing and scoring reports on the race also will be available through Race Live at . TICKETS: Tickets for the Belterra Casino Indy 300 can be purchased by calling (888) 652-RACE or by logging onto .

BRUNCH WITH THE BUNCH: For the second consecutive year, Kentucky Speedway will play host to an Indy Racing Fan Brunch from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 12 before the Belterra Casino Indy 300. Indy Racing drivers will sign autographs, and fans will get a behind-the-scenes view of Indy Racing. National recording act Blessid Union of Souls will play a concert for brunch guests. The Cincinnati band is one of the world's premier pop bands, with such hits as "I Believe" and "Hey, Leonardo (She Likes Me for Me)." The band will sign autographs after their set. Event grand marshal Tubby Smith, University of Kentucky basketball coach, and Indy Racing spokeswoman Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp also will sign autographs. Admission to the brunch is $10 per person. Armbands good for admission can be purchased at the gate on Race Day.

RACING AND HOOPS: University of Kentucky men's basketball coach Tubby Smith will serve as grand marshal of the Belterra Casino Indy 300. Smith, who led UK to the NCAA National Championship in 1998, will participate in the Fan Brunch before the race and give the command for drivers to start their engines.

RAY MAKES HIS PITCH: 1999 Indy Racing champion Greg Ray will throw out the first pitch Aug. 8 at Cinergy Field before the Cincinnati Reds play host to the San Francisco Giants. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

IN THE MIDWAY: The Kroger Indy Racing car will be displayed in the midway of Kentucky Speedway from Aug. 10-12.
