Eleven year old Hurricane Andrew Murphy accomplished his goal, he wanted to stretch his lead in the championship points battle and that's exactly what he did. Coming into the September 30th, 2000 race at Victorville Auto Raceway in Victorville California, Hurricane had a 45 point lead over second place driver Rad Chad Townley. After winning his heat race and main event Andrew increased that lead by an additional 5 points.
With only two more points races until the end of the season, things are looking good for young Hurricane Andrew Murphy. "I know its not over, and I still have to do well in the rest of the races" Says Andrew. "Chad is hard to beat".
Andrew almost swept the night. He started in the back for the four lap dash for cash. He was up to second after two laps and was on the tail of his brother Awesome Austin Murphy for the third lap. At the checkered flag Awesome Austin held onto the lead by only two feet. Taking the $20.00 home with him. Awesome says. "That's why you don't let up till after you pass the flagman".
