Winner of the season opener in March, Scott Busby returned to Chowchilla Speedway Friday night and won the 20 lap RACE Modified main event. The win came aboard his Port-A-Cool Harris Modified as Paul Stone placed second ahead of Marcus Aue. Like Busby, Porterville's Raymond Noland made his first start since the opener his second win ahead of Ramie Stone and new point leader Monty Tomlinson Jr. in the 20 lap main event.
Ed Marion won the 15 lap California Sportsman main event ahead of Gary Hildebrand. The first race of a four race Hobby Stock Ladies Series was held, and former Street Stock star Jeannette Gomes returned to win the 20 lap main event ahead of Lorraine Mounce and Kristi Williams. The event was sponsored by Farnesi's Steakhouse of Chowchilla.
Mark Condell and Mark Hamblin won the six lap Modified heat races, and Stone won the four lap trophy dash. Previous winner Aue led the opening lap of the main event ahead of Busby and incoming point leader Steven Williams. Aue spun exiting Turn 2 of the second lap, and Busby led Williams and Robert Marsh back to the caution flag. A lap three caution flag flew for Condell, and Busby led Williams and Marsh on the restart. Stone slipped past Marsh for third on lap eight. As Busby was trying to put a lap on Bobby Smith, who was running well in the high groove, Williams was trying to get by Busby on the inside. A lap 16 caution flag flew for Jim Myers. Busby led Williams on the restart, and Stone's bid for second saw him lose third to Hamblin. A final caution flag flew for Aue, who spun in Turn 4 to avoid Stone. Williams was black flagged from second for leaking fluid on the track. Busby led the restart as Stone quickly charged into second, and that's the way they finished. Aue settled for third ahead of Hamblin and Jack Stanford. Stone emerged with a slim point lead over Williams after this event.
Noland and Tomlinson won six lap Super Street Stock heat races, and Tomlinson added a four lap trophy dash win to his point lead gaining effort. Tim Ragsdale led the opening lap of the main event ahead of Noland and Tomlinson. The race was destined to go with no yellow flags, and Noland used a low pass in Turn 4 of the second lap to take the lead. Tomlinson went high around Ragsdale in Turn 4 of the third lap for second. Last starter R. Stone was in fourth by lap five. Ragsdale briefly took second from Tomlinson on the back stretch of the seventh lap, but Tomlinson made a Turn 4 pass a lap later to reclaim the spot. A low pass in Turn 4 of the 11th lap gained R. Stone third, and a side by side battle for second quickly began. An outside pass on the back stretch of the 18th lap gained R. Stone second, and Noland won ahead of R. Stone, Tomlinson, Ragsdale, George Lefler Sr. and Steve Stone Sr.
Rob Schropp won the California Sportsman six lap heat race, but he lost the four lap trophy dash to a last lap pass by Keith Van Houten after leader Marion had spun. Kevin Freitas led the opening lap of the main event, but Van Houten made a high pass in Turn 4 a lap later to claim the lead. Van Houton fell off the pace in Turn 2 of the third lap as Freitas led Marion and Schropp back to the caution flag. Schropp settled into second behind Freitas on the restart. Bad luck struck Schropp again as he pitted on lap seven, and Freitas spun from the lead in Turn 3 for a lap ten caution flag. Marion gained the lead and held it to the checkered ahead of Hildebrand and Freitas.
Darcie Odgers and Gomes won six lap Ladies Hobby Stock heat races. Williams held off a last lap bid by Gomes to win the four lap trophy dash. Nikki Smith set the early pace in the main event ahead of Gomes and Mounce. Williams took third from Mounce on lap three. Amber Hewitt brought out a lap seven caution flag, and Smith continued to lead Gomes and Williams on the restart. A low move in Turn 3 of the 11th lap gained Gomes the lead, but Smith made the same move on lap 13 to reclaim the lead. A low pass in Turn 1 of the 16th lap put Gomes back into first.
Contact racing in the battle for second sent Smith into the front wall for a lap 19 red flag. Fortunately, she was okay, but the race was ended with Gomes the winner ahead of Mounce, Williams, Jeanne Diebert and Smith.
