VICTORVILLE: It was a beautiful sight. Fine-tuned machines waited for only the best drivers to take the wheel. Then, with the confidence of all the NASCAR runners combined, these cars took hold of the dirt track and let it rip! With the fast and furious pace and fender-to-fender competition, the Route 66 Raceway was taken over by WOMEN DRIVERS!
After "the boys" warmed the cars and track up for the ladies, the track was at their mercy. Powder Puff racing has come to the Route 66 Raceway! Seventeen cars took the track and turned it inside out last Saturday night, April 28th. Flying Melinda Coburn burned the wheels as she overtook her competitors and placed first in the first Powder Puff race of the Route 66 Raceway 2001 season.
As for the guys, no turn was safe with I.M.C.A. Modified winner, Mark Allison #A5, at the wheel. With every turn a near miss, there were more than a few pile-ups. Luckily, no drivers were injured in the hits and slams. Twenty-one Street Stocks hit the track with tires burning and engines screaming. Turn after overtaking turn, there was no better action than last Saturday night when Mike Milender #2X, took first with his turn hugging, strategic driving.
Mini-stocks earned their fair share of hits and crashes with eighteen cars taking the track. But the first place driver, Craig Baker #79, knows no fear when it comes to taking his car through clouds of dirt and dust to overtake many a competitor. The All American is always a sight to see. With more than fifteen cars going for the win, there was plenty of excitement for the fans to enjoy. Rob MacDonald #61 took first place.
