CHICAGO, Ill. (August 17, 2001) - Matt Crafton and the No.88 XeSightingSystems.com Chevrolet Silverado captured their 4th top 10 starting position of 2001. Crafton will start on the outside of row 4 tomorrow in the 2nd annual Sears Craftsman 175 at Chicago Motor Speedway.
"I would have been fine letting one person qualify ahead of me so I could start on the inside, but we started on the outside at Nashville and I had no problem taking over the inside at that track once the race started," stated Matt Crafton, driver of the No. 88 XeSightingSystems.com Silverado and 2000 Champion of the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series.
Ray Dunlap, ESPN Reporter for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, stated that each winner so far has qualified 4th or better. Crafton believes qualifying in the top ten is good enough to win, especially with his experience on flat track like Chicago.
"I would say this track is a mixture of Homestead and Martinsville," stated Crafton, "You definitely use your brakes on these shorter tracks, however here you have to constantly shift back and forth from 4th to 3rd. It is harder on the motor to shift and it is harder on the driver to concentrate, but I like shifting and we have a great flat track combination."
With the slight engine trouble the SealMaster Racing team encountered this season, the team and driver feel this track is perfect for them. Crafton's qualifying effort made him the highest qualifying Raybestos Rookie of the Year driver. Although Kyle Busch is a freshman in the Craftsman Truck Series, he is not a Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate.
The Sears Craftsman 175 will be broadcast live on ESPN starting at 5:00 p.m. MRN radio will start broadcasting at 4:30 p.m.
