SWANSON WINS MADERA SPEEDWAY FEATURE

Mike Swanson, the defending Madera Speedway Grand American Modified champion, defeated Mark Welch after overtaking him on the final restart on lap 17. This was the second weekend in a row where the thirty lap feature event took more then an hour to run.

"These features are getting quite long," said Swanson. "I have a water bottle in my car that I will drink out of whenever we get a caution, and halfway through the second main event, I was out of water."

Steve Daniels finished third in the second feature with Bob Reichmuth, Robbie Caldwallader, and Joel Theisen rounding out the top five.

In the first 30 lap feature, Steve Daniels beat second place finisher Rich Niell at the line to win his first main event of the season. Niell, lost a rear-end gear and oil coated the racing surface as all 22 cars were able to cross safely in the end. Swanson also beat Welch in the first feature taking third, and John Dalerio finished fifth.

STREET STOCKS

Justin Westmoreland led wire to wire durning a caution free Street Stock main even in a dominating fashon. This marks the second time that the 17 year old Westmoreland has visited victory lane. Tom McCoun passed Britt Wasson to finish in a distant second place. Dave Conway came in fourth and Randy Reeves held off the rest of the pack to finish fifth.

TOYOTA MODIFIEDS

Kevin Thompson pulled away early from the pack to aquire an early race lead in the Toyota Modifieds. He wasn't challenged until Chris Lewis eventually caught up to him on lap 15. Lewis attempted a last lap pass in turn three, but came up short finishing second for the second race in a row. Mike Burgess held off the hard charging Randy Manser to finish third and Doug Bridger rounded out the top five.

TOYOTA SEDANS Rookie Kevin Gottula pulled inside of leader Manny Gonzales on the last lap in turn three to win his first ever Toyota Sedans main event. This comming after a single file restart on lap 24 when then first place driver Kevin Doran was penalized for rough driving on lap 22 when he bumped leader Del McIntosh. Shannon Kawahata finished in a careear best third place followed by John Bray Jr. and John McCollum.

PURE STOCKS

Defending Pure Stocks champion Frank Mazzei won his first main event of the season. Mazzei did this against a healthy 14 car field in which all of the cars finished onl the lead lap. Randy Reeves finished second with a last lap attempt to pass Mazzei in turn three. Aaron Mundello finished fourth followed by Paul Spencer and Cary Hahn rounding out the top five.
