DARING MOVE NETS SECOND BULLRING LATE MODEL WIN FOR BUSCH

LAS VEGAS – Young Kyle Busch pulled a daring move in the final turn of the last lap to snatch victory from Rich Attisani at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Saturday night. Attisani took the lead of the 50-lap NASCAR Late Model feature on lap 37 and appeared to be well on his way to his first win of 2001. Busch reeled him in over the closing laps and caught Attisani in Turn 3 on lap 49. Busch dove under Attisani coming out of Turn 4 and beat him to the finish line by less than a half-car length. Attisani finished second, followed by 2000 Bullring champion Dick Cobb, last week’s feature winner Mike Ray and Steve Anderson. The victory was Busch’ssecond of the 2001 season.

The race was halted for 18 minutes by a crash on lap 18 in Turn 4 involving Wayne Jacks, Billy Newman, George Antill, Mark Ayers and Jeff Perkins.

NASCAR Late Model heats were won by Ray Hooper Jr. and Ken Holt. The eight-lap, $100-to-win Racer’s Supply Dash for Cash was won by Mike Ray.

Don Sargent won his first Charger feature of the 2001 campaign over points leader Pat Petrie Sr., Dan Schools,Travis Swalwell and Keith Danser.

Charger heats were won by Doug Davenport (driving a Pinto powered by a 4 cyl. engine) and Tom Youmans.

Points leader Dan Fitzgerald won the 30-lap Grand American Modified feature. Fabian Bray was second, Doug Hamm was third and Randy Swalwell and Sonny Boeckman completed the top five. The eight-lap Grand American Modified Dash for Cash – sponsored by Grasso Auto Sales and The Balloon Lady – was won by Dan Fitzgerald. Larry Gerchman and Greg Albright also won 8-lap qualifying heats.

Spencer Clark won his fifth Legends Car feature of 2001 after staging a torrid battle with eventual runner-up Charlie Wahl. T. J. Clark finished third.

Legends Car heats were won by Spencer Clark, Californian Joel Vines and Bob Woodsford.

Tyler Mullins served as Junior Race Fan and Melissa Demercurio sang the national anthem. On Saturday, June 16, the Bullring presents Final Lap Racing Collectibles Father’s Day Night, featuring twin NASCAR Late Model main events, Grand American Modifieds, Chargers, Lengends Cars, Thunder Roadster exhibition and a special “6-Laps-Forward, 2-Laps-Back” race. Spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m. The Bullring will present a huge fireworks display, demolition derby and 75-lap NASCAR Late Model feature on Tuesday, July 3 at 5:00 p.m. Also racing that evening will be Bandoleros, Legends Cars and Grand American Modifieds.
