"JoRonCo 75 presented by Craftsman"
July 7, 2001 – Bakersfield, CA – Brandon Miller was back in the winner’s circle for his 2nd win of the season in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model Stock Cars. Although Dan Holtz posted fast time for the night, Miller was able to win the Trophy Dash earlier in the evening and then came back to win again in the "JoRonCo 75 presented by Craftsman." But Miller had to battle points leader Holtz most of the 75 laps. Holtz would get in range to try to make a pass, but Miller pulled away and Holtz had to settle for 2nd place.
Kevin Small and Kevin Thompson battled for 3rd and 4th. Thompson qualified for the Trophy Dash, but NASCAR officials spotted fluids dripping and he had to work hard to get into the main event. Small was ahead of Thompson until lap 45, when Thompson made his approach and took the position, which he held for the night.
Milan Garrett won the TimberWolf Hard Charger award.
In the 911 Race For Youth Series, JoRonCo’s owner Ron Holbert drove the District Attorney’s #8 to the winner’s circle, a first win for the DA’s office and the best finish of any sponsor since Marion Collins developed the Guest Driver Program for sponsors. Holbert had to come from the middle of the field, but once he got the lead, the win was his. Meanwhile, Bob Friend of the Kern County Building Department, John Hampton of the CHP and Paaul Mudryk of the BPD went 3-wide at the finish line to finish 2nd – 3rd and 4th.
In the NASCAR Street Stocks, Lloyd Wren, Jr. captured his first career win – the hard way – coming from the back of the pack, dodging traffic, and not spinning out as many of the front runners did. First it was Billy Tucker, who had won the trophy dash, who went into the wall early in the race. Then Anthony Gillespie, who was running strong at the front lost it in turn 2. Josh Horn, Doug Foos, David Hutchins, and JR Garcia were making their way to the front faster than Wren, but when it was all said and done, Wren was able to out-power Horn for the lead and took it all the way to the winner’s circle.
In the Chevron High School Series, Valley High’s Jerina Parks got her second win of the season. She was running a strong 3rd behind Shafter and South, but when they got together she took the lead and held it with a couple more challenges from the other schools. Kern Valley’s Wes Woody was able to take 2nd place, followed by Rebecca Brewer of North and Tyler Attebury of Porterville.
In the Super TT Motorcycles Casey Yarrow was able to challenge and win against Rick Pearce in both the Elimination Trophy Dash and in the Premier Main Event. Once Yarrow got the lead on Pearce, he was able to get some distance and keep it. Pearce took 2nd followed by Mark Cernicky.
In the Sportsman Division, Ed Coffey won followed by Bruce Sellers and Ernie Lyles.
