TIM WOODS III WINSTON WEST RACE IN UTAH

CHINO HILLS, Calif. -- As the Chino Hills Ford team prepares for the Sept. 1 NASCAR Winston West Series race at Rocky Mountain Raceways near Salt Lake City, Utah, driver Tim Woods III is looking forward to the event.

The race at Rocky Mountain Raceways will be Woods’ first trip to the 4/10-mile oval. But Woods said he believes his first career victory in Winston West competition may be just around the corner.

“We’ve run well in our last several races, but we don’t have the finishes to prove it,” Woods said. “One thing I understand is winning and we are building a winner here. Our goal from here on is to have a strong finish to the season.”

Three races remain on the 2001 Winston West schedule. After the Rocky Mountain Raceways event, the Series races on the 1.5-mile oval at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Oct. 12 and on Woods’ home track, the half-mile oval at Irwindale Speedway.

Woods is 15th in the championship standings, trailing 14th-place Troy Cline by 67 points.

The charismatic Woods recently participated in the Greater Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club’s Meet the Boys and Girls program.

“This is a chance to meet some kids and have some fun with them,” Woods said. “What better organization could you work with than the Boys and Girls Club?”

Woods is a former college football player and owns a national championship ring as a member of the Mt. San Antonio College team that won the national junior college football title in 1997. He was also a championship bicycle moto cross racer as a youth and, as a kart racer, competed with drivers now prominent in open wheel racing.

Woods is under contract with Roush Racing with an eye toward the 2002 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series campaign.

Woods’ team, T-III Motorsports, was named after the three Ts in the nickname Woods was given while racing bicycle moto cross. The childhood moniker was Tim The Tiger.

Woods lives in Chino Hills with his wife Angelia and their daughters Dominque and Desiree.
