This weekend, August 11th, at South Sound Speedway will be full of exciting bumper-to-bumper action as we welcome back the Raybestos Brakes Northwest Tour. Making a bid for the win on the high-banked oval are Wes Rhodes and Ray Wallace of Olympia. Both drivers are no strangers to South Sound. Rhodes won track championships in 1990, 1992, and 1997. Wallace won championships in 1989 and 1993. Currently in the Northwest Tour points, Rhodes is ninth with Wallace behind by three points in tenth. Gary Lewis of Bothell, Ron Eaton of Lakewood and Kevin Hamlin of Snohomish have multiple wins this season. Lewis has two while Eaton and Hamlin have three. Pete Harding of Surrey, BC is the only other winner so far on the circuit. Joe Benedetti of Auburn, currently third in the point standings, and Troy Conrad of Puyallup will be running for their first wins.
Joining the Northwest Tour will be the Top Notch Trailer Street Stocks. Dave McCaslin of Olympia will be on hand to continue his improving run to the front. With a fifth place finish last weekend, he is sure to be up front again. McCaslin is one of just four top ten drivers to not have a win this season. David Knittle of Lacey returned last week after being gone to place second in the main and is sure to run up top again this week. Dan Woodward of Renton will go for his second win of the season. The Street Stocks are a very close run group with only two double winners all season.
The Northwest Legends and Bandoleros will be on hand for some great racing. First place in points for the Pro division is Mike Munger of Sumner but close behind him is last times winner, Duane Swanson of Seattle. Richie Spooner and Billy Weber of Tacoma will try their hardest for a victory in their divisions. Tracy Warren and Bob Kronenberg of Olympia are also expected to be there. Warren is new to South Sound, only being out once before, while Kronenberg is currently fourth in points for the Masters division. In the Bandoleros, Craig Derksen has still not lost a race at South Sound but Mitchell Ferderer of Spanaway is hot on his tail and waiting for a win.
There will also be a 300-Lap Factory Stock Enduro on Sunday the 12th. South Sound Speedway is located off I-5 exit 88. Gates open at 3:00 with qualifying at 4:30. Racing will be gin promptly at 6:30. All results schedules and ticket prices are available at www.southsoundspeedway.com.
