West Valley City, Utah (September 9) - Qualifying took place on a track that had just be cleaned up from a blown engine and was still slick. These conditions showed in the times being posted, with only three drivers able to get into the 15 second range. with the exception of only two cars the entire filed qualified within three quarters of a second of each other. Kenny Rich #30 took fast time for the event with a 15.68 and was followed by Jimmy Eaton #85 (15.69), Russell Butler #25 (15.95), Zan Sharp #84 (16.00) and Randy Hardman #4 (16.01). The first heat race saw Kevin Stauffer #2 lead until lap seven when #30 Kenny Rich passed him for the lead on lap seven after charging to the front from a sixth place start. Kenny was able to keep #25 Russell Butler and Stauffer behind him to take the checkered flag giving him the win.

In the second heat race the #11 of Brad Young used his pole position to lead the first three laps, when the #77 of Gary Porter took the lead on lap four. Porter then had to hold off a couple of hard chargers in #36 Greg Hillock and #85 Jimmy Eaton. Hillock and Eaton could not find a way around Porter who took the checkered flag for the win in the second heat race.

The main event got under way with Brad Young #11 taking the lead at the drop of the green flag. Lap four saw the #36 of Greg Hillock and the #25 of Russell Butler get together in turn four causing both to spin down into the infield. Both drivers got straightened out and continued on at the back of the field causing no caution.

Young was able to hold his lead until lap thirteen when the #73u of Joe Miller took the lead. Lap 21 saw the first yellow of the night when the #26 of Jim Curbow who was running at the back of the field spun going into turn three. Brad Young #11 went high to avoid him brushing the wall causing to get loose and spin in turn four and end up directly in front of #16 Brett Houskeeper who then hit Young head one, causing young to loose his oil cooler and Houskeeper his radiator, putting both cars out of action for the night. The red flag was then thrown to help facilitate the clean up.

With things ready to go, the green flag was dropped for the restart with #73u Joe Miller in the lead followed by the hard charging #30 of Kenny Rich who had come up from his sixteenth starting position. Following Rich was the #4 of Randy Hardman, #85 Jimmy Eaton and #29 Don Beamis. Lap twenty six saw # 30 Kenny Rich pass #73u Joe Miller on the inside going into turn one to take the lead. Lap number forty would see the second caution of the night when the #4 of Randy Hardman couldn't make it off the track after experiencing mechanical problems.

Yellow flew again on lap forty-five when the #36 of Greg Hillock and the #25 of Russell Butler got together in turn two causing Hillock to go hard up into the wall, while Butler spun down into the grass and continued on. After cleaning up the parts and removing Hillocks car the green flew for a five lap shoot out to the finish.

Kenny Rich in his #30 was able to stay out in front, with the #73u of Joe Miller in second doing his best to hold off the #12 of Jim Wulfenstien, the #12 of Wade Frey and the #29 of Don Beamis. Rich took the checkered flag for his third win of the season and a clean sweep for the night.
