ORLEANS RACING POISED TO EXTEND POINT LEAD

LAS VEGAS (August , 2001) Starting 25th in points following the first race of the season, Orleans Racing driver Brendan Gaughan has made a huge come back and took over the points lead following his fourth win of the season at the 11th event on the NASCAR Winston West Series schedule. Sitting on top as they enter the Bank One 250 Presented by NAPA and Hoosier at Rocky Mountain Raceways near Salt Lake City on Sept. 1, Orleans Racing is eager to extend their lead towards a third consecutive championship for the No. 16 NAPA/Martin Senour Chevrolet Monte Carlo team. The team will also be will be looking for repeat Bud Pole, having captured the last two here at the track called “The Rock.” Successful testing earlier this month sets the stage for a great performance by Orleans Racing driver, and NASCAR legend, Hershel McGriff, who will tackle the .375-mile track for the first time in his No. 04 MBNA/Park Corp. Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

It is rare to find a track that the legendary McGriff has not competed on in his 56-year racing career, which includes over 400 race wins, including 31 in the modern-era Winston West Series. McGriff was recently inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, in recognition for his dedication and courage in motorsports.

“We’re ready to go,” said McGriff. “Our test went good. I think we’ll do real well there.”

With NAPA as a race presenter, over 450 NAPA customers, employees and store owners will be present to cheer on the No. 16 NAPA/Martin Senour Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The NAPA championship car will be making an appearance at a NAPA store in Bountiful prior to the event.
