LAS VEGAS -- Drivers from South Carolina, North Carolina and California were crowned champions atthe 10th annual Legends Cars Asphalt Nationals and inaugural Thunder Roadster Nationals at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Eric King was crowned the Pro Legends Nationals winner after Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., was disqualifiedby INEX officials. King, of Hartsville, S.C., set a new track record of 17.253 sec. during qualifying Friday. Rod Slack of Ft. Worth, Texas, finished second, followed by Medina.

Two-time Master Nationals winner Cotton Spry captured another nationals victory. Dwight Pilgram of Suwanee, Ga., dominated the 29-car field until Spry of Salisbury, N.C., took the lead on lap 23 in the 30-lap main event. Spry was able to hold off Les Bunte of Austin,Texas and Pilgram.

Michael and Thomas Van Wingerden, who started the Semi-Pro A-Main on the front row, took the early lead. The brothers from Huntersville, N.C., dominated the 30-lap main event until a late-race caution was thrown. Andrew Lewis of Corona, Calif. was able to pass the Van Wingerdens to take the checkered flag and collect his first nationals win. Thomas finished second and Michael third. Stacee Rusk of Aurora, Colo., the first women to compete in the Semi-Pro Nationals event, finished 11th. Nicholas Hutchins of Columbia,S.C., is the first Thunder Roadsters Nationals champion. Hutchins challenged Las Vegan Scott Gafforini, who started on the pole. Gafforini led the first half of the 30-lap main event until Hutchins took control. Tom Van Wingerden of Huntersville, N.C., and Gafforini finished behind the champion.
