Danny “The Dude” Lasoski earned his first Pennzoil World of Outlaws championship after the season finale at the half-mile dirt oval at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

A season-long battle for the championship between Lasoski and Mark “Mopar Man” Kinser came down to the Mopar Parts World Finals. Kinser started the evening strong with the fastest qualifying time of 14.100. He finished second in his heat race behind “The Dude”. In the 30-lap feature, Kinser started fourth and Lasoski 17th. “The Dude” drove hard through the 24-car field to finish ninth while Kinser finished seventh.

“I knew that starting back there we had to go. We came all this way and I didn’t want to blow it as a driver. We had to earn it,” Lasoski said. “It is a total team effort. We never quit. The 5M car (M. Kinser) had some trouble along the way and we capitalized on it. That is what it takes to make a championship team.”

Andy Hillenburg, pilot of the No. 2 Luxaire sponsored sprint car, won the “A” feature after qualifying sixth fastest and starting sixth. The Broken Arrow, Okla. resident passed Brad Furr on lap 10 to maintain his lead to the checkered flag. Furr, who won the “A” feature Friday night finished second, followed by 16-time champion Steve Kinser, Joey Saldana, and Sammy Swindell.

“We talked about following everybody. We went with the slick track set up,” Hillenburg said. “It worked good for us. Las Vegas has been pretty good to us.”
