LAKEPORT, California — For all the fans that were on hand during the 2011 Lake County Fair they got to see the first race under the lights during a Fair at Lakeport Speedway. They were treated to the lawnmowers racing, along with the Lake County Off Road Extreme Asphalt Outlaws. The lawnmowers put on an great show in the middle of the infield, in between the action of the Outlaws. People may wonder when we saw mower, yes it is a regular riding lawn mower with the blade removed and people race them, now that is a very simple explanation of the class. More information can be found on the mowers at www.pvmowerracing.com. There where 10 Lake County Off Road Extreme Asphalt Outlaws that took the track, with eight of them starting the main event. Coming back off a absent due to an accident, Kyle Tellstrom was not rusty by any means and went on to win the Main Event over Sean Sweeney of Kelseyville. The 2011 points champion in the division Charlie Collins suffered an engine failure a few laps from the end of the race. If that action was not enough the Derby cars went at it on Friday night for a very hard hitting derby under the lights during the Fair. The action was intense in the two heat races, leaving some cars not able to make the main event. When all the smoke, dust and destruction cleared it was Tim Lapoint taking the win in the main followed by Wes Smock and Dale Ingham. The speedways next event will be the Bomber Bash on September 17th for the twin Bully Dog 50 lap main event where there will be 30 bombers taking to the track at one time.
