NWWT makes final 2011 appearance at Grays Harbor this Saturday

VANCOUVER, Washington — The Northwest Wingless Tour sprint car series will make its final appearance at Elma, Washington's Grays Harbor Raceway this season on Saturday night, as the 3/8-mile, high-banked clay oval closes its own season.

Corey Esteban of Gaston, Oregon now holds a commanding 161-point lead over Creswell, Ore.'s Jesse Thistle with three races remaining this season. While winless in main event action in NWWT competition, Esteban is coming off his fourth runner-up finish of the season last Saturday at Sunset Speedway, and also recently finished fourth in the Big E Non-Wing Challenge in the NWWT's last visit to Grays Harbor Raceway on August 27th.

Mike Romig of Vancouver, Wash. currently runs third in the NWWT point standings, 35 points back of Thistle. Brad Rhodes of Aloha, Ore. currently sits fourth in the point standings and is a lock for Rookie of the Year honors for 2011.

Two earlier Northwest Wingless Tour events at Grays Harbor Raceway were rained out in May and June before the NWWT got off two nights of competition on the 26th and 27th of August. Reece Goetz of Snohomish, Wash. won a wreck-filled Friday night main event on the 26th before becoming the NWWT's first repeat winner in six races at Grays Harbor Raceway when he won the Big E Non-Wing Challenge after making a late race pass around Dallas Melby for the second straight night.

After this Saturday's event at Grays Harbor Raceway, the NWWT will close its season at the Northwest Non-Wing Nationals at Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon on Friday and Saturday, September 23rd and 24th.

A special meeting for NWWT drivers and car owners will be held at 4:15 p.m. in the pit by series management to discuss the future of the Northwest Wingless Tour sprint car series. All interested parties are welcomed to attend.
