"The top two in the chase the father son tandem of Brian Gunderson and Nick Gunderson are separated by just three points. "
The Super Figure Eight title is very much up for grabs for six different drivers. The championship points are close enough that anyone of them could drive away with the 2011 championship. The top two in the chase the father son tandem of Brian Gunderson and Nick Gunderson are separated by just three points. That difference could be increased or erased in just qualifying for the 50-lap main. There are also points awarded in the heat races. When the main event finish position points are added with the passing points given it is no wonder that the any of the top six could win with a mere forty-two points between them. The other two in the top four are last season’s champion Jake Repin nineteen points back and twenty-two points back is Brian‘s other son Ryan Gunderson in fourth. Mike Middleton is fifth, forty points out and the sixth driver with a shot at the title forty-two back is Quinton Borreson. This shapes up to be the best race of the year on their final night of the 2011 season.
The other hotly contested championship is in the Hornet division with three drivers vying for the title of division champion. Current leader Troy Johnson will need a strong finish in the 50-lap road course main event. His pursuers for the crown are Cyril Greenawalt who is fifty-six points back and Jaime Corbett ninety-two out. With the same point structure as the other divisions they are available per qualifying position, heat race finish position, main event finish position and passing points. With a bad showing by the top two and a strong finish by Corbett keeps him in the chase picture.
Lance O’Grain by virtue of taking the green flag of the 50-lap Stinger 8 championship race will win the 2011 division title. O’Grain has dominated this division a good portion of the season. Second in the standings is Todd Stillwell and third is Joselyn LaFleur. Another strong field of 4-cylinder figure eight cars is expected for championship night.
The two traveling series the NW Legends and NW Vintage Modifieds are scheduled to compete to make championship night full of circle, figure eight and road course racing. The racing begins at 6pm with spectator gates’ opening at 4 pm. Fan Fest begins at 5pm. For tickets call 360-805-6100.
