GARDENA, California — After a good outing last Saturday night in the USAC West Coast 360 Series race at Giant Chevrolet King's Speedway in Hanford, California, Greg Alexander has set his aim on the Bud Stanfield Memorial and the $2,000.00 first place pay check that goes with it tomorrow night (September 17) at Chris Kearns' Santa Maria Speedway.
Last week in Hanford, Alexander. who lives in Gardena, California, steered the Chuck Tyler Motorsports, Trench Shoring, Barnes Systems, Sander Engineering, Amsoil, Tyler Pool Service, Tyler Family Farms, King Racing Products #72 to the fastest qualifying time in the talented 20 car field.
After the quick qualifying tour around the 1/3 of a mile clay oval, Alexander ended up fourth in his heat race and started the main event outside the second row (4th position). On a night that did not feature much passing up front, the 22-year-old speedster stayed in fourth until he mounted a challenge late in the race for the third place spot. That charge fell short by a half-car length at the checkered flag.
Since debuting the Maxim chassis three races ago, Alexander has not finished worse than eighth in a main event.
Despite missing two races this season, the fourth place finish moved Alexander up to eighth in the championship standings, only 14-points out of seventh.
Saturday's race will be Alexander's third of the year at Santa Maria. In his two previous outings there this year, he was 10th on April 9th and was eighth on August 27th. Next week Alexander will have a choice to make. He may be shaking down the John Belegante #23 for November's Oval Nationals in the Amsoil USAC/CRA race at Perris Auto Speedway or he may be back in the Tyler Motorsports #72 when the USAC West Coast 360 Series returns to Hanford.
