West Valley City, Utah-- Maverik Modified champion #01 Michael Hale returned to Rocky Mountain Raceways Saturday night to take home The Torch 100 victory.
The Torch 100 event was a fight to the bitter end. On the last ten laps, Hale pressed forward with a steady foot and never looked back. In the final two laps a caution flag was waived forcing a restart. Hale, #84 Mark Ith Jr., and #30 Nick Parker, took the top three spots on the restart where Hale was able to pull through and take home the win in the final battle of the season.
For the last 3 years, the racer that claims the season championship has gone on to win the Torch 100 event. In 2009, Michael Hale created the pattern and in 2010 #7 Bryan Wordelman followed suit. Hale continued the trend he created with his championship season on Saturday, September 10 and his Torch 100 win tonight.
Other racers that were crowned Saturday night for the 2011 season included Super Stocks champion #25 Dillion Lawrence, Figure-8 Cars #70 Tracy Eaton and #20 Shake Rattle N’ Roll in the Western States Equipment Figure-8 Trains. #28 Jim Waters took the lead in points and was awarded 2011 champion of the Ford Focus Midgets.
Tonight ASA winners include: #01 Michael Hale (Maverik Modifieds,) #15 Gregg Fuette (Ford Focus Midgets,) #09 Cory Hutchings (Figure 8 Cars,) #20 Shake Rattle N’ Roll (Western States Equipment Figure 8 Trains) and #77 Barry Egolf (Super Stocks.)
The 2011 Oval Award Banquet will be held Saturday November 5th, at Rocky Mountain Raceways.
