FREMONT, California — 18 year-old Cody Thompson capped his impressive NASCAR Modified rookie season at All American Speedway by winning his second feature of the year on Saturday night.

The Fremont, California driver took his #68 Southern Rock-sponsored Modified to quick time in qualifying as well for the second consecutive race event. Thompson took the quick time by just .001 seconds with a time of 14.214 seconds.
After nearly winning both features last week, Thompson was looking for redemption in the final points race of the season. A seven car inversion placed Thompson seventh on the grid for the 40 lap feature. Thompson took his time navigating the field early on and he restarted fifth after a red flag on lap 10 for a multi-car crash.
But on the restart, Thompson began a quick charge that saw him move all the way up to second by lap 15. It only took Thompson a few laps to chase down the leader and on lap 24 Thompson broke through to take the lead of the race. The event stayed caution-free to the end with Thompson pulling away to a 1.6 second lead ahead of the field at the finish.
The win gives Thompson nine top-fives and 11 top-tens in 16 starts during the 2011 season. Despite missing three races due to mechanical problems, Cody Thompson Racing finished the All American Speedway season fifth in the overall standings.
In the second half of the season, Thompson put together four runner-up finishes and two wins in eight races.
Cody Thompson will continue his season with a few non-points races including a special event on October 14 at All American Speedway the night before the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West race. Thompson will look to make a big impression with a large crowd of fans expected.
