Carson City (September 22) - Carson City local Harold Long in the 3x car set fast time of 13.32 for the Carson City 100. Long was followed by Phil Perry #1 with a 13.50 and Jerry Alec Jr #50x with a 13.52. Sixteen of the nineteen cars clocked in under 14 seconds for the event. The first caution of the main event flew on lap five when the #36 of Greg Hillock had the rear end break which sent him spinning into turn four ending his night, but the 5 laps were enough to for Hillock to take the Genesis Mfg & Dist Rookie of the Year title for the 2001 season.
By lap thirteen Jeff Hillock in the #41 car had taken the lead with the #5 of Michael Carver Battling him for the lead until lap 32 when contact with the #80 of Jim Parnell caused Hillock to cut a tire allowing Carver to move into first. The #5 of Carver would lead until lap 57 when he left the track with a flat tire giving the lead to the #15x of Josh Bews.
Caution on lap 64 for the #55 of Travis Kidd when he blew a radiator hose, putting fluid on the track and causing him to lose traction, going off the top of the track in turn three. The restart found Bews still in front with #50x Jerry Allec Jr in second followed by #25 Russell Butler and #30 Kenny Rich.
With the drop of the green the #25 of Russell Butler took the lead with #30 Kenny Rich moving up into third behind Bews.
Then, after leader Russell Butler got pinned behind a lapped car, Bews dove underneath him to take the lead. After a caution bunched traffic with nine laps left, Bews outran Butler, who made an unsuccessful pass attempt on the final lap.
“It just kind of fell in my hands,” said Bews. “Really, he was a little bit quicker than me, but he hit lapped traffic and he decided to go high and I decided to go low, and my move worked better.” This move gave Bews the win in the last race of the ILMS season.
With his third place finish Kenny Rich captured his first ILMS Championship which wrapped up a 3 race domination over the #37 of Joe Hood who battled and swapped the points lead with Rich for the entire season.![]()
