SACRAMENTO, California — 16 year-old NASCAR Whelen All-American Series rookie Dylan Hutchison finished off his top rookie season with a second place finish in the championship finale on Saturday night at All American Speedway. The second place effort put Hutchison fourth in the final track points standings.
"It didn’t take the former WSRA Baby Grand champion long to move forward."
Hutchison drove his #88 Chevrolet to fifth in qualifying with a 13.98 second lap, which gave him a third starting position for the 50 lap feature event.
It didn’t take the former WSRA Baby Grand champion long to move forward as he took over second on lap three and battled with Travis Milburn for the lead. On lap eight he took over the top spot.
Hutchison led throughout a caution free event working his way through lapped traffic before being challenged by track champion Matt Scott. Hutchison defended Scott for several laps before finally loosing the lead on lap 46.
Coming home second gave Hutchison his tenth top-five finish of the year and allowed him to pass Chris Scribner for fourth in the standings. Hutchison was the leading rookie in the points and has all but locked up the Rookie of the Year award.
Hutchison will take a few weeks off before returning to action on October 7-8 for the Fall Classic at Stockton 99 Speedway, then he will compete in the Late Model race on October 14 at All American Speedway that is a prelude for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West.
His season will wrap up with a return to TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale on November 26 for the California Classic. 2012 plans are being formulated now and potential sponsors can contact Dylan Hutchison Racing for information.
