(09-24-2011 Dacono, CO) Chris Eggleston may have won the feature event at Snap-On Tools Night at the races at Colorado National Speedway but the real story was Bruce Yackey making up a few points on current leader Dan Savage setting up what could be one of the closest championship points battles in a long time.
"A full field of Pro Trucks were on hand for the Snap-On Tools night at the races."
GILLET VET LATE MODELS
Anticipation filled the air for the Late Model main event because the points chase has been heating up for the last several weeks. Top contender #74 Dan Savage had trouble in his heat race and had to start all the way back in 13th spot, which was welcome news for second in points #12 Bruce "the moose" Yackey who would start inside of row 3. Yet just a few laps into the race and Dan Savage had already pulled up on the bumper of Yackey and was battling him for position. The leader of the race was #66 Darren Bucklen who ran into bad luck as slower cars forced him into the turn one wall ending his chance at a win. Late Model rookie of the year contender #7 Adam Deines inherited the lead on Bucklen's misfortune. Only a lap or two later last weeks main event winner #31 Rick Smith passed Deines and then #22 Chris Eggleston went on the outside to steal the lead from Smith. Eggleston couldn't shake Smith as the two road nose to tail for dozens of laps putting distance between themselves and the rest of the field. Eggleston took the win followed by Smith, #7 Adam Deines took third holding off the challenge from #12 Bruce Yackey. #27 Roger Avants snuck back past Savage to take 5th and the "Savageman" had to settle for 6th in a thrilling late model main event.
SNAP-ON TOOLS PRO TRUCKS
A full field of Pro Trucks were on hand for the Snap-On Tools night at the races, veterans #27 Roger "the ice man" Avants and #07 Chris Leaf started on the front row. Avants took the early lead but the rest of the field was running bumper to bumper keeping all the CNS fans on the edge of their seat. #07 Chris Leaf grabbed the lead on one of the many restarts but #09 Justin Simonson passed Leaf on the outside in daring fashion. Yet with less than 10 laps to go Simonson suffered mechanical problems and had to leave the race. That gave the lead to #27 Roger Avants who never looked back and took the win. #07 Chris Leaf finished 2nd, #36 Matt Burton was 3rd, #06 Adam Hilton was an impressive 4th and 5th place was the #5 of Troy Witthar.
NTC LOGISTICS SUPER STOCKS
On lap 10 #46 "Lightning" Rick Lothert snuck by #13 Racin' Jason Morris and built a large lead on the entire field of NTC Logistics Super Stocks. Yet points leader #39 Jack Nugent wasn't about to let Lothert run away with the show as Nugent began to reel in Lothert lap after lap. While Nugent gave it a valiant effort there just wasn't enough time in the race for him to catch Lothert. Lightning Rick took the win followed by Nugent, #13 Jason Morris, #61 John Humphry, and #3 Michael Cox.
A COMFORT SHACK FIGURE 8's
A large field of Figure 8's were on hand for Snap-On Tools night at the races, #10 Nick "the quick" Martinez and #50 Justin Mckeachie filled out the front row. It wasn't long before the Martinez brothers were battling for the lead and eventually #24 "smokin" Joe Martinez worked his way into the top spot. But the real action was in the back of the pack as #52 Jared "Wally" Wall, #23 "Big" Al Duran, #15 Jereme Wall, #50 Justin Mckeachie, #17 Harry Livermore Jr. and several other drivers were banging fenders, getting sideways, and throwing sparks all over the track. In the end Smokin' Joe won by a large margin, #10 Nick "the quick" was second. #52 Wally Wall and #23 Big Al Duran got tangled up at the finish line and #15 Jereme Wall slipped by to take third.
SUNOCO MODIFIEDS
The #95 mod coupe of Cris Muhler looked to be unstoppable as he roared from the back of the field to win by a large margin in his heat race but in the main event Muhler would have to start back in the 6th position. However, it was CARC mod coupe #55 Gary Land who jumped out to an early lead over GAM #1 Jay Fields. 10 laps into the race and Muhler had worked his way into second place but race leader Land had a 15 car length lead, therefore Muhler had his work cut out for him. With under 10 laps to go Muhler had caught Land but Gary was doing a masterful job holding him off working through lapped traffic. As the two leaders entered the apex of turn 3 Muhler went up and over Lands right rear and Muhler flew through the air hitting the wall hard. Cris was okay but his car wasn't so lucky. After the restart Land had to hold off Grand American Modified #95 Dave Finely, the two battled briefly but Land held on for the win. Finley was second (winning the GAM division), #1 Jay Fields was 3rd, #12 Jamie Bubak was 4th and #77 Jeff Hansen came in 5th.
