SAN BERNARDINO, California — Entries are now being accepted for the $15,000 1-800LoanMart Street Stock Shootout, the event that has short-track stock car racers from throughout the West making plans to be at ASA-sanctioned Orange Show Speedway on Oct. 22.
"The advance entry fee is per car and the entry must be postmarked by Oct. 14. "
The Shootout is as big a race for the Street Stock drivers as the Daytona 500 is for the NASCAR Sprint Cup regulars. It will pay $4,000 to the winner, $2,500 to the runner-up, $1,500 to the third-place finisher and a minimum of $250 to all of the 22 starters in the 65-lap main event on the banked, paved quarter-mile oval.
Early indications are that 50 or more cars could be on hand for the weekend, which will begin with an open practice from noon to 10 p.m. Oct. 21. Then everyone will reassemble at noon Oct. 22 for the final practice sessions and qualifying.
The 16 fastest qualifiers will go directly to the Shootout. Everyone else will have to try to race their way into the field by finishing in the top 2 or 3 in a 30-lap B main. Two B mains currently are scheduled, with the top three finishers in each advancing, but the exact number of B mains will be determined by the number of entries.
The advance entry fee is $50 per car and the entry must be postmarked by Oct. 14. After Oct. 14 the entry fee will be $75 per car. And to help ease the financial strain for out-of-area racers, the San Bernardino Hilton Hotel has worked with California Event Management to set aside a block of rooms at a reduced rate.
The Hilton, the centerpiece of San Bernardino’s hotel and restaurant row, is at 285 East Hospitality Lane, less than 15 minutes from the speedway. Those interested in reserving a room at the special rate, which includes two tickets to the Shootout, may contact the hotel at 909-889-0133 and mention the promotional code RACE.
