ANTIOCH, California — Heavy rains from a two-day storm have flooded Antioch Speedway, forcing the postponement of the popular annual event called “Run What You Brung” until Saturday, Oct. 15.
"There is no way to drain the track and have the clay race-ready and the pits usable by Saturday."— John Soares
“There is no way to drain the track and have the clay race-ready and the pits usable by Saturday,” Oval Motorsports President John Soares reported from the speedway on Thursday afternoon. “We’ll have to wait another week to have some fun at Antioch. We’re still on for Merced this Sunday, though.”
“Run What You Brung” is also scheduled at sister track Merced Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 9 and so far there has been much less rain there. Drivers must have competed at two Oval Motorsports events in 2011 to be eligible to race in the two “Run What You Brung” events.
The much anticipated events are a chance for the drivers in the modified, limited late model/super stock, and hobby stock division to soup up their cars with options not normally allowed - like wings, big tires or a huge carburetor.
Racing will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at Merced Speedway on Oct. 9. Antioch Speedway’s program will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.
