Sonoma Drift to Feature Warm-up for Guinness Book of World Records Attempt

SONOMA, California — More than 40 competitors from Northern California will convene at Infineon Raceway on Wednesday, Oct. 12, for a very special night of Sonoma Drift, powered by NOS.

"The evening will also serve as a memorial for Sacramento’s Darrell Dean Conner, who passed away at age 26 on Aug. 27 from cancer. "

The weekly program, which provides drifters a safe, legal and controlled environment in which to hone their skills, will take a break from its regular schedule for an exhibition in which more than 40 racers will do simultaneous donuts in the raceway’s main paddock area.

The evening will serve as a tune-up for the official attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Record in the Most Cars Performing Donuts Simultaneously category. The current world record is 57 cars. The official attempt at the record will take place during the opening night of the 2012 Sonoma Drift season in March.

The evening will also serve as a memorial for Sacramento’s Darrell Dean Conner, who passed away at age 26 on Aug. 27 from cancer. Conner, who was an avid racer and drifter, will be remembered by family, friends and fellow car club members throughout the evening.

“We’re looking forward to an exciting night of drifting as well as a special night to honor the memory of Darrell Conner,” said Lino Ramos, who oversees the Sonoma Drift program at Infineon Raceway. “The simultaneous donuts will add to what have been great drifting events here this season.”

Drifting registration costs $40 per car. Participants can pre-register online (www.infineonraceway.com/SonomaDrift) or by calling 800-870-RACE (7223). Cost for spectators is just $10. All cars must have seatbelts and mufflers to participate, and sound levels must not exceed 115 decibels.
