Bob Lyon driver of the No. 44 Northridge Rentals Pontiac is currently 5th in the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series standings, with 3 top-fives and 5 top-tens.
RacingWest: What comes to mind when you think of racing the Las Vegas Motor Speedway?
Bob Lyon: At the 1st superspeedway race we were in 2nd to Gary Smith with 35
laps to go, he had to pit still, we did not, and we would have been the only
car on the lead lap, when the right front fender and skirt blew apart from
the air.
RW: Did you have the opportunity to test at Vegas? If so how did your lap time compare to the other teams and did you learn anything?
Bob Lyon: No, we did not test due to the lack of funding. It will be a disadvantage for us.
RW: What do you think will be the key to getting around the 1-½ mile oval?
Bob Lyon: Horsepower and aerodynamics!
RW: Will you be competing in more than one series?
Bob Lyon: No. I will bring my Winston West car to the race, race ready, but it is For Sale. I need to sell it badly.
RW: Where will you be staying while in Vegas?
Bob Lyon: Tropicana.
RW: What extra recreational activities will you be taking advantage of while in Vegas?
Bob Lyon: Having a great time at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino.
RW: Do you have a competitor that you feel is truly worthy of the Sportsman of the Year Award? The Most Popular?
Bob Lyon: Myself! I think guys like myself, Doug McCoun, Darrell LaMoure, Mike Kanke, and Craig Raudman are the foundation of the Southwest Series, and newer guys like Auggie Vidovich make it a great, exciting series.
