Madera Speedway (10.18.11) - As a young boy certain events at race tracks really left a lasting impression on me, the smell of popcorn and cotton candy in the air, the sounds of race cars roaring around the track, and the voice of the announcer echoing out of the track speakers and so on.
We designed the Pumpkin Smash Halloween Bash as a night filled with family entertainment and action, and more action! Our slogan for this year's Pumpkin Smash is "If it ain't broke, we will break it" and we intend to make an impression on every young person (and young at heart) that visits the Madera Speedway this Saturday night.
We begin with traditional car races (no pumpkins, soap or water yet) at 3pm, this is the local drivers verses the drivers invited from other track from around the state.
At 6pm we will have opening ceremonies for the Pumpkin Smash, and it does not take long for this show to get wild as "Johnny Rollover" is back to perform another one of his signature car crashes and this time he is rolling a street car into a burning pile of pumpkins. I'm not sure where he is getting the vehicle from so please make sure you lock your car when you arrive or it could be part of the show?
Then at 6:30pm the night gets crazy, this is when we clean the race surface, fill the track with pumpkins and invite all the kids out of the grandstands to come onto the race track and smash the pumpkins all over the racing surface, we then add soap and water!
The crazy Enduro drivers will line up at the start finish line, the announcer will ask the fans to help him with a 10, 9, 8, 7…. countdown and once they get to zero the wet and wild pumpkin smashing race is on. Fans that like wrecks can really appreciate this race as it is 150 laps of smashing and bashing slipping and sliding action!
Then we end the night, and the 2011 Madera Speedway racing season with the world famous Boat Drags and these are not what most people think when we say "boat drags". What we do with our boat drags is take a boat without a trailer and tie them to the back of race cars and race them around the track through the pumpkins and soap and water.
The object is to knock the other drivers boat off the back of the race car, and the last driver towing a boat is the winner! Do not go to the concessions stand for one of our great burgers during this event as it is a heavyweight fight that normally only lasts about 7-10 laps and fans get to see some of the wildest action on the planet!
This event is designed to be fun for the family, fun for those that normally do not attend cars races, and most of all it is designed to build memories for the kids.
Grandstands open at the Madera Speedway this Saturday at 2pm, the traditional car races happen at 3pm, and the crazy stuff happens at 6pm! Adult tickets are only $15, juniors are $7 (ages 6-12), and kids five and under are free as always. Family packs are only $35 and this includes two adults and two juniors.
