PRUNEDALE, California — Jim Pettit II will be seeking his second SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series championship this weekend during the ‘SIGMA Engineering Solutions 154’ in the 3/8ths mile ‘Bullring’ at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This being the last race of the SRL season, the title is on the line. Currently first in the Series point standings, an eighth place or better finish will clinch the championship. His first title came in 2008.
“I’d say our chances are pretty good”, says Pettit. “We haven’t finished outside the top eight so far this season, so barring something beyond our control, I don’t see why we shouldn’t continue our run. Over the past four years, except for a fire a couple of years ago, Vegas had been one of our better tracks. My crew has been working their tails off to get the car ready, as they always do, so I feel like we’re ready for the challenge.”
In the four years that the Prunedale, CA. driver has competed at the ’Bullring”, in seven starts he has a win and six top fours. In 2009, a motor malfunction caused a fire that heavily damaged his race car, and led to a nineteenth place finish. In winning the last race of the season in 2010 at the Las Vegas track, Pettit scored his tenth win in the SRL, making him the winningest driver in the eleven year history of the Series. He since has another win at the Stockton 99 Speedway earlier this season.
